SANB Names Director of Principal Leadership & Learning in Move to Strengthen Instruction and Staff Support

St. Anthony-New Brighton Schools (SANB) has named Matt Menier as its new Director of Principal Leadership & Learning, a position designed to support principals, strengthen instructional leadership, and ensure greater consistency in systems that serve teachers and students.

The role was created in direct response to direct feedback from teachers and principals who identified the need for more cohesive instructional leadership and stronger instructional support. At the same time, the recent departure of the Executive Director of Human Resources and Operations, and the earlier elimination of the Director of Effective Instruction position during budget reductions, provided an opportunity to streamline responsibilities and realign leadership roles with evolving staff and student needs.

“We heard clearly from our staff last spring about what they needed to improve student outcomes,” said Superintendent Renee Corneille. “With recent leadership vacancies, we were able to step back and think differently about how we could meet those needs while remaining committed to continuous improvement and fiscal stewardship.”

Corneille noted that Menier’s experience and visionary leadership make him well-suited for the position. “His experience, relational leadership style, and instructional insight make him a great fit for our district and community.”

Menier brings nearly 20 years of experience in education, most recently as principal of Willow Lane Elementary in White Bear Lake. He is known for his collaborative leadership, equity-focused work, and ability to build instructional teams that help close opportunity gaps.

“Matt impressed me in his interview with his big-hearted approach to leadership combined with his deep knowledge of the technical work we must do,” said Amy Kujawski, principal of St. Anthony Middle School and member of the interview team. “He is ready to help us build strong systems of support.”

Joan Nelson, another member of the interview team, president of the St. Anthony Village Education Association, and SAVHS English teacher, also commented on Matt’s experience and strong fit with SANB. “We had an exceptional pool of strong candidates, but Matt stood out with his familiarity with the current needs of our district and his tangible plan for success in meeting those needs.”

In his role, Menier will coach and support principals, aligning instructional practices across schools, and help build consistent, effective systems that support teachers and improve student learning.

“Strong principals and dedicated teachers are the foundation of student success,” Meiner said. “I’m honored to join a district so committed to continuous learning and growth.”

Menier holds a superintendent license and education specialist degree from St. Mary’s University and has served as a principal, assistant principal, athletic director, and secondary social studies teacher.
