Introduction to Grading and Reporting
Students do not receive A-F letter grades. We realized that those types of grades are not accurate, informative, helpful, and are often inequitable. We shifted to proficiency-based grading in the spring of 2020. At SAMS, we strive to provide students with accurate scores that describe what they know and are able to do.
Students receive a score for each of the essential standard in a course. View last spring’s list of essential standards. (Note: There may be changes to these next school year.) Students will still receive a progress report/report card at the end of each semester.
View this video our instructional coach, Heidi Haagenson, created to explain the shift to our proficiency-based grading system(skip to 13:13 for clarification on the scores). This information is also available in a two-page flyer.
Clubs, Sports, and Co-Curricular Activities
Clubs meet during the school day on Fridays. All students can choose and participate in one of the clubs offered. Students are invited to participate in sports through the St. Anthony Boosters organization.
7th and 8th grade students can participate in any of the sports offered through our Athletics and Activities program. Questions on these programs can be directed to Zach Siggelkow, Assistant Director of Activities, Athletics & Facilities.
All students are invited to participate in after-school activities including:
- Knowledge Bowl
- Middle School Play (for more information, please contact Caley Vickerman)
