SAMS Attendance

School Hours:  8:00am - 2:45pm Students not in class at 8am will be marked tardy unless a parent or guardian has notified SAMS attendance the reason for the tardy.

  • Absence/Tardy: If your student is going to be absent from or late for school, please email msoffice@isd282.org or call 612-706-1034 and leave a message on the attendance line with your students name, grade, and reason for the absence or tardy.
  • Early Pick Up: If your student is going to be picked up early for any reason, please notify the attendance office,  email msoffice@isd282.org or call 612-706-1034 and leave a message, with as much advanced notice as possible. Your student will be given a pass to meet their parent/guardian outside of Door #2 (MS entrance) at the time requested by parent/guardian. Parents/Guardians do not need to come into the building to sign their student out.
  • Late Drop Off: If your student arrives after 8am they must check in at Door #1 (HS entrance) at the welcome desk where they will get a building pass to bring down to the SAMS office. Parent/Guardians do not need to come into the building with their student.
  • Special Absence or Vacation greater than 3 days: If your student will be absent more than 3 days, please email the attendance office with the details of the absence. Your student will be given a special absence form with the dates of their absence to bring around to their teachers. Teachers will indicate if there is any work they would like your student to do while they are away from school. Once all teachers have signed the form your student will return it to the Attendance Office where a copy will be made and the excused absence entered into Skyward. There is no need to email each teacher individually.

Annual Forms on Skyward

At the beginning of every year, it is required that families receive notification of annual forms. These forms must be signed prior to the start of the school year. Families can locate these forms in Skyward Family Access.

Skyward is St. Anthony - New Brighton School District's Student Information System. Skyward is used to track and manage your student(s) meal payments, fees, enrollment, contact information, health forms, school schedule, grading, assignments and transportation schedule.

*If you are a new family to SAMS, you should have received an email directly from Skyward with information on logging into the system and setting up your parent portal.  If you did not receive that skyward email in your inbox, please check your spam folder.

First time user? Please follow the instructions in the skyward email to set up your account. You will also have received an access code in that email. If you are unable to locate the skyward email please contact the SAMS office by emailing tadams@isd282.org.

Cashless practices

Starting this school year, we are asking that all school payments will be made electronically using provided links or QR codes for easy access. This change eliminates the risks of handling cash or checks and ensures payments and receipts are processed in a timely manner. To find fees that have been assigned to your student, follow the bullet points below:

  • Log in to your skyward parent portal
  • Click on the Fee Payments Tile
  • Click on the Revtrak Payment System in the upper right corner

**If you are unable to pay online, please continue to send cash or check with your student.

    • Lunch Times vary depending on the day:

      • B Lunch (starts at 10:55 or 11:05): 8th graders and half of the 7th graders
  • Students may enter the building after 7:15 am unless prior arrangements have been made with the SAMS Main Office.
  • School ends at 2:45pm and students must be picked up by 3:15 pm unless they are staying for a school-sponsored activity.

SAMS “Off and Out of Sight” Policy - Smart Phones and Cell Phones and Smart Watches

Families will sign off on SAMS’ “Off and Out of Sight” policy regarding cell/smart phones along with other annual forms on Skyward, and a paper version will be available on the night of the open house. This year, we are adding smart watches to the policy. Students will be asked to leave their smart watches in their lockers with their phones.

Our “Off and Out of Sight” policy means middle school students will power off phones and smart watches (including smart watches is a change from previous years) and keep them in their lockers from the 7:55 a.m bell until after the 2:45 p.m. bell. Students who need to contact home or other individuals can use the office phones between classes or they may ask for a Smartpass to the office from any of their teachers at appropriate times during class.

Staff will implement the “off and out of sight” policy with students during the first few weeks of school, using consistent, predictable responses to students who have their phones or smart watches out. Staff will also work with families to help ensure the school environment is positive and focused on learning and relationship-building.

Muslim Student Prayer at SAMS

At SAMS, it is important to us that we honor all faith and religious beliefs of all of our students.  We have set aside a time during the school day where Muslim students can exercise their religious right to pray.

We are committed to ensuring that these students have a safe environment and time set aside to participate in their afternoon prayer.

To implement this, each student will need to have a prayer permission slip on file, signed by both the student and their parent or guardian, before they can be excused from class for prayer.  The expectations for students are listed below:

  • Respectful Conduct: Students must maintain a respectful and quiet demeanor in the designated prayer area.
  • Timeliness/Smart Pass: Students are responsible for arriving at and departing from the prayer area promptly to avoid disruption to their classes.  Students with signed permission slips will have a Smart Pass option for prayer.  Students may leave class to pray at 1:45.  Teachers should expect students back in their classroom no later than 2:00pm
  • Responsibility:  Students will be responsible for themselves – there is no need to pick up students from other classrooms or wait for other students in the bathroom.
  • Personal Prayer Rugs: Students may bring their own prayer rugs.
  • Supervision: While supervision will be provided, students are expected to behave responsibly and respectfully without constant direct oversight.
  • Academic Priority: Academic responsibilities always take precedence. Students are expected to make up any missed classwork or instruction due to prayer.

If you would like to give permission for your student to participate in prayer at SAMS, please contact Traci Adams at tadams@isd282.org to obtain a permission slip.

Clubs, Sports, and Co-Curricular Activities

  • Clubs meet during the school day on Wednesdays.  All students choose and participate in one of the clubs offered and they are able to change clubs quarterly.
  • All SAMS students are invited to participate in sports through the St. Anthony Boosters organization. Click HERE to view their website.
  • In addition, seventh and eighth-grade students can participate in any of the sports offered through our Athletics and Activities program. Information can be found on the athletics/activities website.
  • All SAMS Students are invited to participate in after-school activities including Knowledge Bowl, Middle School Play, Gender-and-Sexuality Alliance (GSA), Student Diversity Leadership Group (SDLG), and Student Council. Information regarding the start of student after school clubs will be communicated via weekly announcements using parent square.

Communication to families

It's important to us that families stay updated and informed. All families are automatically added to teacher, school and district-level communication. We strive to ensure each family receives our messages, but if you are finding you are not, please email Traci Adams, the St. Anthony Middle School administrative assistant, at tadams@isd282.org or by calling 612-706-1042.

Weekly Update: St. Anthony Middle School sends out a weekly email message to families on Fridays with important notifications pertaining to your student's school.  All families are automatically added to the email list.

View SAMS Family Updates

District Update: St. Anthony - New Brighton Schools sends out a weekly email called The Brighter Bulletin which provides families with information at the district-level as well as updates from all three schools and community services.

View past Brighter Bulletin newsletters

Teacher Update: Teachers will update the Grade Level Weekly Update by 10am every Monday morning.  This is a living document and can be accessed at the top of all SAMS Family Updates.

Emergencies: When an emergency occurs (weather, situation at school etc.) our communication team sends out emails, text messages and phone calls to alert the school community of the situation. All families are automatically added to this communication.
