Jason Johnson didn’t know anything about the Golden Guide Award.
He was grabbing the mail like any other day and saw a letter from the University of Notre Dame. He isn’t an ND alum. His curiosity piqued, he opened it and read:
“Congratulations! On behalf of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, it is an honor to present you with our Golden Guide Award for excellence in advising students in the college search and application process.”
But it was the quote that followed from a former student, his nominator, that made him smile:
“What makes Mr. Johnson truly deserving of this award is the genuine care he has for his students. He wants each of us to succeed not only during high school but also long after graduation by building lasting relationships that extend beyond the classroom.”

He may not be a man who relishes the spotlight, but Interim Superintendent Dr. Steve Massey has already made a mark on the district through his extensive expertise and genuine care as he navigates us through the school year ahead. We sat down with him to hear about his experiences, his role as superintendent, and his values as an educator.

St. Anthony–New Brighton Schools (SANB) has named current dean Kristine Schwintek as Interim Principal of St. Anthony Middle School (SAMS). Schwintek steps into the role following the announcement that current principal, Amy Kujawski, will be leaving SAMS at the end of June for a principalship in another district.
